For Father's Day this year we celebrated at the Delicious Southern Cuisine Restaurant. A very lively environment with a 2 man band singing Blues, R&B, Jazz, & Latin hits! The fusion of Mexican food choices like enchiladas, rice, beans, chips and salsa with a variety of Southern food yearnings like yams, greens, ribs, Mac & cheese, stuffing and more!! Did I mention the bottomless Mimosas and the very friendly staff? A lovely experience all the way through and the prices are just right!!! 5 Stars for Delicious!

My go to spot for banana pudding and quick Southern cravings like candied yams! Also, their fried fish is pretty good and non greasy.

  • *****

This place is awesome, I love southern food (I'm from the south) so I rate it very hard. The fried chicken was amazing as the the Mac and cheese. Candies yams were on point and the mixed vegetables were seasoned to perfection, and the collard greens made just right. They even had orange soda to go along with it all! I will definitely be back many times.

The food is exactly what I thought it'd be: Delicious. Words cannot describe the authenticity of the food served here. This is by far the best southern restaurant in Los Angeles. I dont usually eat the same thing two times in a row, but please believe I came back the next day.

Love love love this place!!!! The peach cobbler is to die for oh and the breakfast is really good as well!! But the peach cobbler is my favorite i definitely recommend this place

  • *****

This place is really yummy for when I need my soul food fix! I'm from the south and this is the closest food that tastes like home out of all of the "soul food" places that I have tried here in Los Angeles... however the peach cobbler is not very good. The recipe needs work. Other than that I would definitely Recommend

Hole in the wall location but I love this place. First came to this place 2 years ago and keep coming back. The cornbread melts im your mouth and the mac and cheese is better than mom makes. Smothered pork chops are amazing. You can not go wrong with this place.

  • *****

Awesome soul food spot! The food is full of flavor, the portions are generous, and the service is great.. Worth every mile of driving to get there. We will definitely be back.

  • *****

My favorite soul food place in LA period .. Ive been to majority if not and I only come here .. I cannot write a whole book on this place you just have to go and thank me later !!!

  • *****

Really solid soul food location with generous portions. All items are served a la crate and you build your own combination plate. My go to items are the baked or smothered chicken, dressing(ask for cranberry sauce), Mac and cheese, yams and greens or cabbage. The cornbread muffins are just okay I can take or leave them depending on my mood. This location is always busy and fresh food is always being pushed out due to demand. Sunday afternoons can get super busy from the after church crowd.

  • *****

my favorite spot period they are on top of 5 soul food spots in la the taste is always good no debate my go to spit on sunday i crave it all the time i try to resrain myself is so wonderul the mac and cheese is a hit every time i'm never disappoint but full and happy i sent my money really gets your money worth

My favorite southern restaurant to go to when I come to LA. The owners of Southern Delicious Cuisine is a family owned business that takes pride in the food they prepare. My favorite the smothered chicken, yams, and cabbage has the taste home. When you want comfort food this is the place to be!

  • *****

I love them. Their food is always fresh and "Delicious "! I even use them to cater a couple of events of mine.

  • *****

True to it's name, the food was deliciously southern. Fully satisfied with the fried chicken and Mac n Cheese and the banana pudding was sooo good. Best part was the service though, a young man served our plates and even asked "more peach or more crisp?" when we ordered cobbler. What a great question! Wonderful service through and through

Decided to stop by to get some food before catching a movie at a nearby mall, and I'm so glad that we did so. The food here was really great and it was all at a more than reasonable price. I had a flavorful and big pork chop smothered with gravy for just a bit over $4, and my friend had their fried chicken, which was super juicy and tender. The mac and cheese here is also really good and everyone who works here is really friendly and nice! Will definitely stop by again even though it's a while away from where we live.

Breakfast was a revelation here at Delicious Southern Cuisine. I had the chicken link with eggs and grits as recommended by the nice lady behind the counter. The eggs (over medium) and grits were pretty basic but that chicken link! So flavorful and delicious, perfectly grilled and fresh, with a unique and flavorful seasoning. The cornbread was tasty, too, warmed up with butter. Truly delicious!

Shout out for the coffee: really flavorful and fresh.

Free parking in the lot behind the restaurant.

Thankful i don't live next to this place or else it would be a daily habit!

Everything is a la carte which means there are no set plates, you stand in line and order whatever you would like from their buffet style stand and everything is totaled at the end.

    So far ive had their...

-Fried chicken- wing and thigh (super moist and crispy)
-Mashed Potatoes- very flavorful and soft
    -Okra and tomatoes- highly recommend
-Peach Cobbler- fresh, sweet, & delicious
    -Corn muffin/bread- .59 cents each (a must)
-Yams- tastes so sweet (a must)
-Banana pudding- was too mushy for my taste (but fresh)
-Shrimp salad- for $11 i wouldn't recommend getting a salad (i wasn't a fan of the dressing options either) they have ranch, Italian vinaigrette, or raspberry vinaigrette (skip)
-Shrimp Po Boy Sandwich- the shrimp is seasoned perfectly but the sandwich was bland (skip)

I cant wait to go back and try more of their stuff! The smothered chicken looks delicious :D

Vidal Cortes (head chef) cant thank you enough for this little gem! I can taste the heart and soul that is put in every dish..

    -indoor seat/outdoor seats
    -small parking lot
    -affordable prices
-THEY DONT SERVE SWEET TEA (bummer)

Ok my daughter wanted some soulfood & it's too hot to cook yelp has great review so we thought we give it a try I ordered mac & cheese spinach 1 piece of smothered chicken & one piece of baked chicken smothered chicken was great tasting well seasoned the meat fell off the bone macaroni lots of cheese good consistency. The spinach & cornbread was yummy too. Peach cobbler that I didn't need was sweet & flaky crust. It's a nice place to get home cooked food when u don't feel like Cooking & tired of fast food. Will return !

  • *****

A la carte offered here. The cornbread is really moist and tasty.
The food looks really good. The cabbage and mac and cheese are delicious.
It's kinda in a funky spot in a small strip mall at Crenshaw and Vernon. Across from Chase Bank.

Oh yeah, the strawberry cheesecake is great as well.

This is a hidden secret in Baldwin Hills the name of the restaurant is perfect since the cuisine is above DELICIOUS!!!!! The menu brings back so many fabulous childhood memories especially the collard greens, black eyed peas, oxtails and the list goes on and on. Let me not forget the banana pudding that taste just like my moms. Went to the restaurant yesterday and had fried chicken, black eyed peas, collard greens and of course the bubbling hot peach cobbler which is always fresh.THIS PLACE SHOULD BE ON THE FOOD NETWORK!!!! Keep up the good work.

  • *****

They are consistent, unlike most soul food places. I recommend getting your sides in separate containers to keep juice off your entree. I am a regular and do this every time. All of the food is as the name says, Delicious!

  • *****

Was skeptical when I first visited this joint only because I just don't like eating at places where the food is already ready, but when I tasted the food I was pleasantly surprised. So far I've had the cabbage which is nicely seasoned and good, the yams are delicious, the chicken wings that I cannot get enough of, I'd say these are my favorite chicken wings from any place I've had them. Red beans and rice are the best. The only thing I did not like was the dressing, but everything else I've had is delicious. I've been back at least 20 times

  • *****

Swear it's bomb and they are Hispanic.. There goes the stero type...Im black and it's very close to the best ever lol

The new restaurant sits on the former site of Get It n Go. It seems like it's with the former owners as well as the menu pretty much syncs up with previous reviews of Get It n Go.

You can order plates but the items are all a la carte and are charged accordingly. It's under heat lamps but all of the food that I had was excellent and not dried out at all.

The fried chicken was outstanding. Some of the best that I've ever had. It was crispy and flaky and full of flavor. It was not oily. The chicken itself was moist through and through. At $2 a piece, why would you order a wing or a drumstick when you can get a thigh? Just curious. I had a breast at $2.50. My friend had a thigh. Worth every cent.

We went back and got the smother pork chop which was outstanding as well. The pork literally falls about when you cut it and the sauce was out of this world (although a bit heavy). Definitely worth ordering.

We also had the baked chicken. It was ok but I'd go with the fried chicken or the smothered pork chop instead.

The collard greens are a revelation, I've had some collard greens, but this was like experiencing collard greens for the very first time. It was amazing.

The baked beans and the macaroni and cheese were very good, but the collard greens were the best.

It would have been 5 stars except that the decor leaves a bit to be desired. It's clean but a bit spartan. Plus they serve canned soda but no diet coke.

Stop by if you get a chance. Some of the best southern cooking I've ever had.

This was such an amazing find. After trying to go to a different soul food location that ended up being closed, we ran into this. At first appearance, it doesn't look like much, but the food lives up to the name. The sweet and sour chicken was delish...the Mac n cheese was a star, and the mashed potatoes were awesome. My dad had the meatloaf and he loved it. The yams were great too. Super cheap and homemade soul food...doesn't get much better. I would only suggest changing the name cause I think it turns people off at first glance.

  • *****

OMG! I always say to people ; "guess how the food tastes at Delicious?" Answer ; "Delicious!" Corny, I know - but people always fall for it.

I just got to the point where I don't have to go in there 2-4 times a week. It was getting embarrassing.

Before I forget - feel free to ASK FOR A SAMPLE of anything on display.

Okay, first - I always order off the a la carte menu - although they have sandwiches, gumbo and some other stuff that is made to order.

This place can cheap, moderate or pricey depending on what you want and how you order. I try to stay healthy - but I want to keep it flavorful so I can stay on track.

I usually order the chicken and a couple of side orders. Green beans and mashed potatoes, cabbage, rice, black eyed peas, spinach are $1.50 and chicken ranges from $1.25-$3 a piece. The baked chicken is the best I've had, but it's still just baked chicken. The Sweet & Spicy Chicken is OMG. If you don't see it - ask. The BBQ is succulent and falls off the bone. They have a Teriyaki too, but I don't think I've tried it. Careful - the Sweet & Spicy is the most expensive chicken and is not sold according to the prices on the board. The breast is like $3, not $2.25.

Mac & Cheese, Yams, greens are $2 and up. They also have peach cobbler and sliced cakes. I've only tasted the cobbler and it was delic - even though I don't really like peach cobbler. Everything seems pretty good. I haven't bought everything - but I've sampled most of it at least once. If I get tempted by mac & cheese - I ask for a sample, take my little spoonful and orde my two vegetables and baked chicken.

Oh, I finally got up early enough to have breakfast. THEY HAVE CHICKEN SAUSAGE. That may not be exciting to you, but I don't eat pork - so it's exciting to me.

See ya' there. It is just north of vernon across the street from the west side of Leimert Park. Park in the back and walk around.

I think there is a 50 cent charge if you use your credit card for less than $10 - that's my excuse for buying two meals - lunch & dinner.

My family and I just moved into the neighborhood and we were looking to try some good soul food. After reading all the other reviews on Yelp for this place we decided to give it a try. Since it was our first time there the lady at the front was so helpful and talked us through the whole process and told us about all the foods (they also let u taste any of the sides before u decide to get them).

We got fried chicken, spicy chicken, and the porkchop. Along with collared greens, cabbage, mac n cheese, and okra with corn. Lastly we decided to just get the peach cobler as well. I loved everything. The food is flavorful and not overly greasy. My favorite was the mac n cheese and the fried chicken.

Portions are big and prices are great(for all that food i listed it was only about $34) will definitely be back!

  • *****

AHHHHMAZING! I could seriously eat here everyday! delicious homemade food right from grandmas kitchen. large portions and unbeatable prices! Everything here is amazing! I usually get BBQ chicken or smothered chicken on rice (the gravy on the rice, to die for) with mac and cheese and green beans. the okra/corn mixture is outstanding! and the peach cobbler is to die for!!! LOVE this place!

  • *****

For on the run soul food this is a must stop! The breakfast is awesome too if you are looking to eat and dash. Only con is the portions are sometimes not consistent.

I went with a friend based on the Yelp reviews. We were craving some soul food and the drive was not that bad. The parking space was small, so that was a bit of an issue. When we walked inside, I was amazed at the display of food. As a first timer, I noticed people were ordering their sides first and then their protein. I ordered the Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy. Although I would've loved to try out the fried chicken, I settled for roasted chicken and added cornbread on the side. For 2 plates and a drink, it came out to be $21 tax included. Let me tell y'all, that mac and cheese was not made out of that Kraft box. I could taste real cheese and the texture was so soft. The mashed potatoes with gravy are also made out of potatoes- not a instant bag like other locations serve. I appreciated this spot making their sides from scratch. The chicken was underseasoned but of course, that hot sauce made the difference. Cornbread was the perfect ending :D

The only downfall from this spot is the parking. Other than that, I highly recommend this spot.

  • *****

This is one of my go to spots. I love their soul food. Lately I've been messing with their breakfast which is really good. Their chicken link breakfast sandwich is a must.

  • *****

The food is good. The establishment is clean and the staff is courteous. It is also nice to have the option to eat-in. Parking is in the rear. At the time I went to pick up food to go, I was the only customer in the restaurant so the service was prompt. We ordered fried chicken, spaghetti, hot links, green beans, yams, Mac and cheese, and banana pudding. Everything got a thumbs up except the spaghetti. The spaghetti included a Cajun seasoning. One of our teenagers described the Cajun flavor as "too much." Notwithstanding that one dish, we will definitely come back. Glad to have a good soul food spot in the neighborhood for days we want the convenience of take-out but need a home-style dinner.

  • *****

Best mouth watering oxtails ever! Although everything is Al Carte it's worth every penny. So when me and my husband crave some good ole soulfood we take that drive down Crenshaw.

  • *****

So far it's cool! Nice people & I was able to sample something if I wanted to which is a + just in case I don't like it!

  • *****

Good food but some of the young staff need customer service training.

  • *****

Good Southern Food, the service is fast and the people are helpful.

  • *****

My husband is the food critic and we just had breakfast. He said this was the best home cooked breakfast he has ever had besides mine . The seasoning was judt right the pancakes

  • *****

Everything's a la carte..I like that. Everything I had (fried chicken, Mac n cheese, red beans n rice) was great...I like that. Friendly service..I love that!

  • *****

I have now been in Los Angeles a total of four years, loving the weather, the food on the other hand is another matter. I have frequented several "soul" food restaurants now... None have I returned to!! I walk in and either the smell isn't right, or the food on display just looks Wrong! When I first walked into Granny's and saw the food, I knew I was home.. Always fresh, friendly service and great prices! If you want Soul Food... This IS The place to go!!Delicious Southern Cuisine is best.

  • *****

    Great food! Cool staff!

Delicious has great service I'm always greeted with a smile .

I'm there once a week EVERY week. Best Soul Food in Town!!

  • *****

    Good food great prices

  • *****

YES to all the fried chicken! First off, the line gets long and busy at lunch so try and go outside those traditional hours. What I loved most was their mission and values (in addition to the chicken!) A staff member approached us and informed us that all employees were all in some form of recovery/rehabilitation and it translates into the amount of pride they take in their work and food. So besides that...the food is truly on point. The chicken is better than anything I've had in Los Angeles. They also gave us cole slaw and mac n' cheese...this was just TOO much food. I recommend getting sides which you can share. So although I just said its a lot of food, you HAVE to get the banana pudding out of the case before the register - YES YES YES!

  • *****

Pretty good breakfast with large portions. I had the chicken sausage plate. My only issues were the biscuits . A little doughy and without much flavor

  • *****

The shrimp po' boy was as delicious as the name suggests. The presentation skills was a bit uninspiring and the unripe tomatoes hurt my soul AND I spent about $17 for a sandwich, potato salad, a drink and dessert.....I mean when I break it down like that maybe the price point was justified. What other restaurant would provide all that for less than $20. Also they made the po' boy to-order so it was hot and fresh when I took my first bite.

Don't let the a la carte items fool you either. At first I thought it was going to be pricey given the fact that each side dish is about $2+, but my sister's meal actually came out much cheaper and she had glazed chicken, rice, cabbage and a chicken wing (which they forgot to charge her for).

All in all this place has some tasty selections and the banana pudding was tasty( it could of used more vanilla wafers). Also there's plenty of parking in the back.

  • *****

AMAZING food and great service. I am picky when it comes to soulfood, this place hit the spot. I live in the bay area, came to LA to visit/shop and used google to locate a soulfood place, glad I chose this one. The prices are reasonable and you get nice sized portions. I recommend the fried fish, cabbage, dressing and cornbread.

  • *****

    Food is definitely delicious!

    Delicious food!

    Very good food!!

If you are interested in great place to eat you came to right spot and food come highly recommend on your heart.

I can't believe we are in 2016 and just because the owners are not African American it gets flack from some people in the surrounding community. I even heard that a lady was protesting outside because the chef was Latino. At this time in our lives in this world we need to become one, as they are trying so hard to divide us. But if it's one thing that can bring us together it should be some bomb ass food like they server here. Service was good but a little slow as they where switching out from breakfast to lunch. I also wished I had time to wait for the short ribs which are made to order.

All in all, like Rodney King said "Can't we all just get along" especially for some good soul food"

  • *****

Omar & Maria, were the best. Food was tasty and plentiful. Many things to choose from but everything looks good. Mac and cheese was tasty, greens were good, string beans with carrots amazing. Yes I suggest you go by and have a plate.

  • *****

Absolutely great tasting food. Atmosphere not so much. But sometimes you have to go to a little hole in the wall to get the best.

  • *****

I have been here two or three times and each time has been great! Small and cozy spot with great food reminds me of home cooked meals. Last Saturday I was passing time and decided to get breakfast this was a first here and hunnny they did not let me down. Simple breakfast with a lot of soul! I this place!!!

  • *****

When I tell you this food was everything that's an understatement! Great service, great food and great people! We'll be back for sure

  • *****

I love and can really enjoy this food because for one they are not over salty and the food is still season to a perfection that keeps me coming back. You will definitely be please and the Peach Cobbler is delightful

  • *****

I just finished eating one of the BEST breakfasts I have eaten in a few years. This morning I ordered as I have in the past; the salmon crocket (1 of the BEST recipes in So. Cal) breakfast with home fries, sliced beef steak tomatoes (no eggs 4 me) & wheat toast. My meal was just under $10 & I could not eat it all but wanted to. I have ordered this same meal in the past but this am it was especially DELICIOUS! I wasn't in the best of moods, but it has changed thanks to some good food, gospel music & the Word of God. !

  • *****

The food here was really good! We ordered breakfast and everything was cooked on the spot. Excellent service as well!

  • *****

Delicious food (seriously) and fast, friendly service.

  • *****

Everything was delicious! I am originally from Georgia, and it tasted like I was back home.

  • *****

I love this place.. Soul food dinner is yum & I eat here for breakfast too (always gresh and hot!)... It's not like my Aunty good ol' southern cooking but it sure does hit the spot! Always clean when I walk in and service is always on point... The portions are a lot so you may want to share :)

  • *****

My co-worker and I, actually was looking for another spot. However, the spot wasn't open. So we decided to take a ride down Crenshaw and noticed this spot. I can be very picky about soul food.

Boy, let me say when we walked in. It was like a light shines from heaven. The choices were amazing. I really didn't know what I wanted. I could've ordered the whole place. The customer service was awesome...like the young lady for a food salesperson. Oh yeah, she'll let you sample food too.

So, my co-workers, order so many things...lol...I can't even tell you. Lol!!! But, I had: black eye peas, bbq chicken, rice and Jambalaya. The peach cobbler was great too.

I highly recommend this place. Very nice and clean!!!

I might be going again today.

  • *****

The names says it all. My go to place when you want some home cooked food but can't cook it yourself.

  • *****

Love this place. I come for breakfast mostly but the dinner is good too. Prices are reasonable and the staff is really friendly. Def best in the area!

  • *****

Very satisfied with my food. The meatloaf is LIT!!!!

  • *****

Ordered the short rib dinner and the fried fish po boy sandwich. DELICIOUS!! Thank you to the employee who gave me a nice cold cup of water for waiting a few minutes. The food is made with love and they show love with the respect for their customers. Keep up the good work!!!

  • *****

It's truly delicious! I love the chicken, baked or fried. Sometimes you have to get the fried chicken"to order" and it takes a little longer. The collard greens are super flavorful! If you have time, have them make you the gumbo. It takes some time, but it is truly amazing.

  • *****

Driving through LA n decided on some soul food, yelped n this place did not disappoint. It was great..Smelled amazing walking in. Everything is cafeteria, ala carte but it allows you yo try a Lil of everything. I had the fried chicken breast, omg..so moist n juicy...n I had the Mac n cheese n corn bread very good but for me the best part was the DELICIOUS COLLARD GREENS,spicy, tasty, full of flavor.....on point! ID GO BACK JUST FOR THEM GREENS!! NEXT TIME ILL TRY THE RIBS,FISH, SWEET POTATOES....MUST TRY!!!

  • *****

This is some of the BEST soulful in the city... always fresh. Always good. I love the servers. The Restaurant is clean and the service is good. I've made large orders for parties and they always show up on time, with hot food, wrapped for complete freshness and there is always a lot of food. I am particularly surprised at their breakfast. Their potatoes have onions and peppers in them, they have chicken delicious sausage and pancakes so yummy. It's a small place. I generally come to pick up food and take it home cause it is a small restaurant not the atmosphere I'd eat in, but the food I can't wait to get home. It's a family owned restaurant I can't say enough about. You will love Delicious!

  • *****

Went there for breakfast was pretty good...

  • *****

This is the best soul food -- the best COMFORT food --- in Los Angeles. Period. Hands down. End of discussion. All the sides are flavorful. Sumptuous. And the meat options are generous and spiced to perfection. The adjective that comes to mind when I consider their food: clean. This is CLEAN soul food that doesn't leave you bloated or guilty for having eaten so hearty. Delicious is, indeed, delicious!

  • *****

Love the food here from breakfast to dessert. I never get let down, the staff are friendly and the food is always a hit. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. I def would recommend Delicious to anyone looking for a great southern cuisine

  • *****

Food looks fresh and some is made fresh to order, got some food for my family and they love it here . Very nice customer service & they were patient with my granny so I'm happy ! Nobody was irritated , they were all very helpful & that's something I really love about businesses

  • *****

I've been going here since it opened. The owner is Hispanic, but so what. He has a great business with good clean food. Nice atmosphere.

  • *****

This place is great....the food is really good. Its no frills which is why it gets 4 stars and not 5. Small cafe seats about 20 people right off Crenshaw Blvd. It gets crowded quickly on a Sunday (the only day Ive ever been in here). Not much atmosphere, tables and chairs, nice size hot buffet. Customer Service is good, however execution could be better when ordering off the menu...there is typically a 10 to 20 min wait as some items are made to order....but TOTALLY worth the wait.. The red beans and rice is the BOMB. Mac and cheese, collard greens, corn bread, peach cobbler..........ALL DELICIOUS!

  • *****

Really great food. Always welcoming guests and always fresh food with a satisfying taste.

  • *****

I eat there all the time.

  • *****

Delicious food great service. The choices of dishes was just right for my mid-day meal. It felt warm and comforting. I'd go back and I would also recommend for others to go there. The current construction going didn't seem to deter other customers either! Good job Delicious.

  • *****

This place has good food, and a lot to choose from.

This place lives up to its name. It's just that: DELICIOUS. Great food and great service! I'll be coming back again for sure

had to pick up a quick dinner on the way home so I had a hankering to stop by delicious got the smothered chops wit greens an red beans n rice.
Portions were nice, as can be seen in the photo

  • *****

I was in the area for the first time and found this place on Yelp. Staff were friendly and the food looked and tasted amazing! I ordered Smothered Pork chop, macaroni & cheese, cabbage, yams, & corn bread muffin.

  • *****

    Place is out of site!
Friendly staff, honest prices and they are fast and efficient.
I'm white and don't ever feel "out of place" like I've felt at other establishments in the Leimert park area.
Love this place.... Good food can only come from the heart and hard work

  • *****

this place is so good had me up in there eating like a Tasmanian devil. The peach cobbler ain't nothing to play with cannot wait to come back and order a whole pan of it.

  • *****

I have been here about 10 times. Each time, the fried/baked chicken is moist and tender. Could be spicy or hotter although it's decent for the crispy goodness. I like the collard greens, although at times salty, because it has bits of pork stewed in with it. Okra and corn is my second favorite side dish, something different! They bake small cornbread muffins just like you would at home in a baking dish, wrapped in foil separately. It's small and just the right amount because they WILL pile the food onto your tray.

  • *****

Tried this place on a whim. I'm always down for soul food! The food was really good, no complaints at all. My boyfriend had fried chicken, mashed potatoes and cabbage and I had fried chicken, macaroni & cheese and green beans. Service was okay ; no one was rude but no one was really nice either. It's close to home so we'll definitely be back.

  • *****

I find it positively insane this place doesn't have higher stars. New to the area I've been looking for good places to grab a quick fix. I drove by his joint for months before finally deciding to check it out despite the shady corner location. So glad I did. This place is a hidden gem. Amazing fried chicken. Baked chicken like you wouldn't believe. Mac and cheese with a little bit of heat. Spicy chicken po boy is soooo good. There's a meatloaf poboy which is also amazing but kinda hard to eat since the bread is so soft it kinda falls apart when you eat, but grab a fork and mow down. Then there is the Turkey legs. Man I don't wanna go over the whole menu of foods I've had but other than the spare ribs and corn bread I've loved everything and really enjoy having a great friendly place within walking distance. I wrote a review for this place but idk what happened to it! I initially gave them 5 stars (when they first opened) but the quality of their food has gone down a notch. I used to be in love with their mac n cheese but these days it's grainy and chunky instead of creamy and smooth. Even their cornbread is a bit grittier. Also the food seems to be colder in temperature these days. Idk if buffet style is the best method for this restaurant-- Some of the gravy based dishes look suuuuuuper unappetizing after sitting in a tray for more than an hour.  I've gotten take-out twice from them this month and both times I had to reheat my food after my 3-5 minute drive home. In their defense I DID come right before closing. Both times. I will continue to support this business tho because their fried chicken is still delicious

Super nice staff.  Well maintained. The food was extordinary, portions were almost too big (almost). This is my new breakfast spot

I get food to go here, probably once a week or so when my wife doesn't feel like cooking. I'm rarely disappointed! We usually get a meal for under $15 that feeds both of us and our 7 year old grandson! Went there today and for the first time since I've been going the line was out the door! I was a customer when it was a part of Chef Marilyn's attempt at other locations but for some reason it failed. I'd recommend Delicious to anyone who wants a home cooked Southern style meal with deserts. You won't be disappointed IMO. Good food at a good price!

This is a good and inexpensive place to eat. Thought it was black owned, but it's not. I really did enjoy the food yes I would recommend it to others.

Up until today I would've given this place 5 stars. But today the food was beyond mediocre. I've been coming here for about two years without ever having a complaint but today the good really just sucked (except for the peach cobbler).
It wasn't so bad that I'd never go back but I was extremely disappointing. I realize that every restaurant has different cooks so it's possible to get a different tasting dish from time to time but this was utterly ridiculous.
I will still recommend this establishment to others as well as to continue to go for myself  but that lady visit will always leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I have to give them 4/5 stars because as I stated normally thus place has the best soul food in town. I love the fact that the good is a la carte. So if I'm in the mood for a little if this or that I'm able to order it that way.
The construction on Crenshaw makes it a little difficult in get in and out of but don't let this stop you from going inside and checking them out.

Got the mac and cheese, black eyed peas, smothered chicken, collard greens...everything was amazing! Can't wait to come back! (:

I have been here about 10 times. Each time, the fried/baked chicken is moist and tender. Could be spicy or hotter although it's decent for the crispy goodness. I like the collard greens, although at times salty, because it has bits of pork stewed in with it. Okra and corn is my second favorite side dish, something different! They bake small cornbread muffins just like you would at home in a baking dish, wrapped in foil separately. It's small and just the right amount because they WILL pile the food onto your tray.

LOVED THIS PLACE.  I spent much of my life in Louisiana so I sometimes crave good soul food which isn't always easy to find out here.  This place totally hit the spot.  Their fried chicken, mac&cheese, and sweet potatoes were amazing.  The best complement I can give is that everything tasted home-made.  Staff was super friendly as well!

  • *****

The name speaks for itself. It's better than M&Ms. Taste very close to a good southern home cooked meal.

Delicious, authentic southern cuisine at a super reasonable price.  I can get 2 entrees, 3 or 4 sides, corn muffins, and dessert (enough for 2-3 people) for about $20.  The food is served a' la carte/buffet service style, but you can eat in if you'd like.  I appreciate that they are always organized and usually have the items on the menu available.  At other similar establishments, half of the items listed are "not ready yet", "we ran out of that", or " we don't serve that anymore".  Try the sweet and spicy baked chicken, you may accidentally bite your own finger....it's sooo good.

This is, by far, one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. The greens, smothered chicken, tritips, and sweet potatoes are a must.

This...is the spot!  If you are looking for soul food, this is the spot. This is for you, good prices, all good!

Their soul food is pretty good and surprisingly the cooks seem to be mexican because I've seen only one or two black people in there in my 10+ visits.  I can't say I've had a problem with any of their food. I sampled the gumbo and decided against it, their cobbler is okay but I prefer to go down the street to Southern Girls for theirs. Overall though I'm a fan and have gone back several times + their customer service is pretty good.

Best Fried Chicken I've ever had. I'm shocked every time I have it how crispy it is on the outside, and how juicy it is on the inside. The okra, the greens and the Mac & cheese are my favorite sides. Highly recommend!

My coworkers and I went to Delicious Southern Cuisine on a Saturday afternoon after working at a fair in Leimert Park which is across the street from this location...

Pros: The food was great although I am not a fan of anything buffet style but then the staff prepares the plates that is not accessible to customers(good thing for germaphobes). In addition, the decor is nice, clean with decent prices.

Cons: This establishment is really hidden due to a lot of construction that is taking place around the area which also hinders being able to park.

    Will go back...

Best mac and cheese in town!!! I cannot say enough of the wonderful customer service. The ribs, the chicken,  the greens all of it is so gooood!!! I will definitely be coming back for more!!!

I came to this little soul food restaurant on the suggestion of my sister, since I had a mad craving for greens. Upon walking in, the line was wrapped around the small seating area, with about 15 people in line. I almost walked out, but the divine scent of the food enveloped me and dragged me inside to the end of the line.

There were plenty of employees who were taking orders, an asset to such an establishment with lines that reached further than the door. One guy was consistently bringing out fresh food and I saw him change at least 5 trays and that was just with me standing at the front of the line. Nothing sat for long. A very nice and pleasant lady came up and asked if I was next. I acknowledged and proceeded to tell her my order. She picked up a combination plate and I asked for greens and macaroni and cheese. Then I asked for a small side of yams and dressing. For the main course, I ordered the fried chicken (got 3 pieces; breast and 2 thighs) and I also got a peach cobbler. By this point, I was being majorly greedy, but what the hell...I don't have to finish it in one sitting. The lady kept calling me ma'am, which I appreciated. She was a Hispanic woman, probably around my tender age of aaahhhemmm (clearing my throat)...29, so I really appreciated the courtesy, hospitality, and kindness. I paid for my order; a total of $24.00, which I didn't think was bad for soul food and a la carte, at that.

Now home, I have had a chance to dig in. Though I wasn't starving, I made a small plate with just a spoonful of each of the sides. Mind you, again I  only went in there for greens, but I was just being greedy buying all this food, but I had to buy enough to really write an Elite-worthy review, right? Plus, there is plenty of food to share.

Well, the greens were a big disappointment...to the point where I didn't finish what was on my plate and I'm throwing the container with the rest of it in the trash. As Jennifer R. said, the greens had a very weird hint of sweetness. Not the seasoned, spicy vinegary (I know! It's not a word, but I invented it) taste that I'm used to. I can usually eat anything and make it work, but I couldn't stand that weird sweet taste. I will most definitely NOT order that again. It makes me mad that I didn't like it, because that was the main thing that I went in there for. The macaroni and cheese was superb!! In the pan (look at the pictures I took), it was calling to me! All that cheese was ridiculous! The dressing was tasty. My first taste of it, I felt like it was a little bland, but as I ate it, it tasted better. It has a little sweetness to it, as cornbread dressing should,  but it was definitely one of the milder tasting dressings that I've had. I would definitely get it again. The fried chicken was actually really good. The batter had a nice flavor and wasn't bland, which is something that I can appreciate. The yams were also very tasty! I like that they weren't too sweet. It wasn't candy coated. That was a huge plus to me. Basically, their yams are indeed a side and not a dessert like some places. The black-eyed peas and rice was remarkably very tasty. I enjoyed those couple of bites that I had. I asked for just a little bit of rice and more beans, since I don't eat a lot of rice. I took a bite of the cobbler and that was really good and spiced right. I will for sure order that again.

The only downfall about this place is the construction surrounding it. There is no parking on Crenshaw Boulevard because they have a crane parked out there and are doing construction on the street. They do have a small lot, but all the spaces were taken which meant that you had to park in the alley, which is where most people were. Some people parked really bad, to where no one could park next to them and there was space for two or more cars. I had to park my baby back there in the alley and I was not happy when I open the door and smelled the worst smelling putrid stench of decomposing urine ever! It literally took my breath away! I almost parked my baby somewhere else, but the alley was full and there was nowhere else to go. I got out of my truck, carefully looking and making sure I didn't step in anything. There was so much trash in that alley, especially where I parked that I didn't want to look too hard at that mess and actually see what that smell was coming from. The neighborhood surrounding the restaurant is nice. Overall, I would definitely go back, even though the parking situation needs some major help. Customer service was on point, too which is huge in my book!

Great food and friendly, hard working staff! Came here after ending the South La CicLAVia at Leimert Park. It's definitely a hidden gem.  My friends and I all had different choices, baked chix, smothered pork, greens, Mac & cheese, jambalaya, mashed potatoes and gravy, ribs, cornbread, etc. We all agreed it was a great find and I can't wait to return.

DSC was recommended by a friend. Although it took awhile, the Gumbo & Peach Cobbler were worth the wait. I will return soon and recommend DSC to others.

Had a strange craving for succotash and was entirely to lazy to make it myself so I decided to check this place out. They have a smorgasbord of different soul food options and they serve you cafeteria style. The sides will run you about 1.99 a la carte and the meat options vary.

I decided to satisfy my succotash craving alongside an order of rice + gravy, collards, one fried breast and a smothered breast. I was also in a hearty mood so I ordered a peach cobbler with EXTRA crust.

The food was far from great but good nonetheless. The collards had this weird hint of sweetness to them. It was an intriguing taste. The succotash was actually pretty tasty. It had just enough kick but it wasn't overwhelming. I wish I would've had the gravy that the chicken was sitting in placed on my rice rather than the gravy they used because it was kind-of bland. The smothered chicken breast was nice and moist. So tasty. The peach cobbler was a small taste of heaven. All it needed was a scoop of Blue Bell ice cream.

All in all, I did enjoy the food. Good for those days you have a taste for a little soul food but not in the mood to break a sweat in the kitchen over a hot stove.

Okay, just a quick update. I eat here quite a bit and I did come once when the brisket was extremely salty. I guess it depends on who's prepping it for the day. Generally it's more hit than miss. Fear not however- you can ask for samples! That's my tip of the day. Also, their cornbread has gotten better over the past few months. It's less bready and more cornmeal. Definitely good when you get improvements.

I like how the people were and how quick the service was .

My husband and I just moved to the neighborhood and stumbled upon this place. Being from the south we have very discerning tastes and have yet to find good southern food in LA. That all changed when we are here. The black eyed peas and collard greens are terrific and the smothered chicken was tender and delicious. The cornbread was sweet and dense. The only thing I can say that could use improvement is the peach cobbler. While the crust was good the peaches tasted canned instead of fresh and there was a bit too much nutmeg. Also, they should offer it with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. If you are in the area though, I would highly recommend you stop in and give it a try.

I was driving down Crenshaw and out of the corner of my eye saw the sign for this place and put it on the list because there's no good soul food in my area (mid-city).  Stopped by this spot for Mother's Day and immediately realized by the stream of people and the smell of the food that this was going to be a hit! Didn't realize that it's been there for 2 years!  We ordered the fried pork chops, fried chicken, dressing, Mac n cheese, yams, greens, cabbage, cornbread and peach cobbler.  Everything was delicious (as good as my own cookin!)... But the dressing really stands out.  The peach cobbler was just OK which was surprising because everything else was so good.  Just need better crust...

The staff is a group of young guys who were courteous, fast, and very customer service friendly.  There was a guy selling CDs out front and entertained us with nice oldies like The Moments, Johnny Taylor, etc.  Not only will I be back, this is now my " go to" place.  Love that everything is a la carte with very reasonable prices.

This place is so delicious!  I tried every single one of their sides and had to say I was beyond impressed.  Wait - lying didn't have the Mac n Chs or Greens or anything else that had meat in it.  The string beans, cabbage, yams, and black eyes peas + grilled salmon reminded me that being a Pescatarian doesn't have to be boring!  Yeah I know they more than likely used chicken stock for flavor but that doesn't count.  I'm living in the real world so some things I take as they come.  Call ahead if you're ordering the salmon, everything else is cafeteria style and that cake was the bomb.  See again - cake is made with eggs/milk etc so it's kinda hard to get away from those animals!

I've eaten here several times and the food was delicioys, but I would like to applaud their catering service. They catered my birthday party for 50 and it was PHENOMENAL. I ordered fried chicken, ribs, salmon, mac and cheese, yams, and corn and okra. All of my guests approached me the day of and after the party to tell me how delicious the food was. I don't like salmon but whatever they seasoned  with was out of this world. I am in culinary school and am picky, I was impressed. Thanks to Adriana for assisting me im the ordering process. Catering service is highly recommended.

Oh my jesus!  I could smell the cabbage from outside, no joke!  The food is amazing! Everything is ala carte.  I ordered, black eyed peas, cabbage, mac & cheese and baked chicken with a corn bread muffin and red velvet cake.  (Whoo!, no I didn't eat all of it in one sitting, but I sure did try LOL)  The food was good, at my grandma's table in Oklahoma, for Sunday dinner good.  I've seldom had better even in the south.  It's soul food, so it's heavy, rich, calorie ladened, put you to sleep food.  I enjoyed every bite and will certainly be back!

Great food.  I have been going here every since it opened.  I t started off slow, but the staff and food has improved.  I was just there Sunday and had mac/che, greens smothered pork chop, rice and gravy.  Everything was delicious.  The portions were large, the pork chop was huge.  The man standing be hind me " oh she got the big one" (pork chop).  I ate on the food from Sunday - Wednesday.  Keep up the good work.  The staff is very helpful.  The fried chicken is the best.

Food is good and clean. Unlike other places where its dirty, this place is clean and I enjoyed the hospitality. Who cares if the people who cook are Hispanics.....THEY CAN  COOK!!!!!!  Stop by here, the food is great and affordable.

  • *****

I've seen some odd reviews for this place and by odd I mean totally racist. What the heck is wrong with Latino people cooking soul food? Nothing. I'm Vietnamese and one of my cousins runs a Vietnamese restaurant. Who cooks their Vietnamese food? 2 Mexican guys and a Cubano. A good cook is a good cook. If they are taught the cuisine well, then they'll know how to properly prep it.

So let's just judge this place on its food and its concept.  It is an a la carte, soul food joint with decent (if not cheap) prices.  I've been here a few times and have made my way through quite a few of their menu items.

First, let's talk service.  Are they rude? No- more like aloof sometimes but they are generally friendly here. I always try to leave a tip even though I tend to order take out. I think I'm getting excellent value and it's my neighborhood joint. (I literally live a block away) so I want to show some support.

Now let's talk do's and don'ts about their food.  Their fried chicken is a solid offering.  I'm a white meat guy so I always order the breast. Slap some hot sauce on it and ta-da! Delicious indeed (I love me some hot sauce on fried chicken). I like the baked chicken as well. I notice they rotate their menu items and they have a sweet and spicy chicken. I haven't eaten it so I can't speak about it but I am considering testing it. If you see their brisket, try it (it's one of their pricier items but if you've ordered brisket elsewhere, you know a) it's pricy and b) it's probably dry. This place definitely doesn't suffer from b). The sides that I've tried and I'm sticking to are the sweet potatoes (dessert), red beans and rice, mac'n'cheese, black eyed peas, rice and gravy (if you like sage in your gravy) and my favorite the corn and okra (spicy and rich in tomato flavor). Also, they cook up a good wet jambalaya (because to me there is a wet, saucy type and a dry type- both equally delicious when prepped correctly) and gumbo. I recommend calling these in because they cook it to order and it takes about 20 minutes.  The gumbo surprised me.  It didn't have blue crab in it but they included a fresh (not frozen!) King crab leg segment.  I wished there was more but I was pleasantly suprised. The jambalaya and gumbo come in small and large. I ordered the small on both counts and had leftovers (and I can eat). I can't imagine what the large portion would be (maybe feeds a family of  4?)  Also, if you see their ribs, give them a try.  They're not barbecued per se- more like braised in barbecue sauce. I believe their cooked first, then sauced and simmered.  I like them and they're meaty as the pieces I ordered were both the ribs and rib tips. 3 for $5. Not a bad deal. I have yet to try their Po' Boys so I'll report on that another time.

The don'ts I've experienced so far are the meatloaf (dry- which is surprising as it's swimming in sauce. Feels like they need a fattier grind of meat), cornbread (also dry and quite bread-like. I prefer more corn and cornmeal in my cornbread...and butter) and the mashed potatoes (which seem just like boxed potatoes so nothing special). The sweet potato pie was too sweet for my taste, so I just stick with the sweet potatoes themselves.

I saw a review that said the food here was overcooked and over-seasoned.  Okay, seriously. have you had soul food?  It's not like I'm asking for health food.  And have you tried Dulan's? Talk about over-salted!  Look, this place is good and things are decently priced so that you can order an entree with two small sides and come out under 7 bucks. Is everything delicious? No, but most of the items I've eaten have been so far!  In fact, I ordered 2 thighs (1 fried, 1 baked- it's all they had left before closing and it was delicious!) and 4 small sides for my wife and me and it came out under $12. Beat that with a stick. This is not Post & Beam, it's like a mini cafeteria style place and it's a solid offering for what it is. I hope they continue doing what they do here because I'll keep coming back. I would rather drop my $7 here than down the street at McD's or BK.

The food is fresh and hot. I've only eaten here twice, but each time it has been delicious!

I know this is place is pretty new, so I'll put in my quick $0.02 and share my experience:
*I was greeted as I arrived and helped quickly.
*I had a fried chicken breast, red beans and rice, greens, and a cornbread muffin. The chicken was tasty, not greasy or too overrcooked. Both the beans and rice and the muffin were solid. Greens were just a little too vinegary for me, but the turkey in there was nice.
*Total bill was just a bit over $7.
I'd go again, I left full and not totally disgusted with myself (my typical goal with southern food).

So, I was driving down Crenshaw and I saw a sign for the newly opened Delicious Southern Cuisine, it caught my eye, so I immediately made a right turn.
I went in and was greeted by a nice young lady. I told her it was my first time here, and she had no reservations about helping me with my order and the pricing of each item I chose.
As soon as you walk in, "There It Is": fried chicken, meat loaf, fish, cabbage, yams, mac and cheese, red beans and rice and much more, on display ready for you to make a choice .
Everything looked so good, I swear I wanted it all. I had smothered chicken (1breast), mac and cheese, collard greens, black eyed peas, and corn bread with my to-go order. It came to $11 and some change, but the place is not really expensive...I'm just greedy as hell!!
I enjoyed every bit of my meal, it is indeed a "Delicious Southern Cuisine."
